Preparing your eyes

Before you start using mascara, we recommend that you degrease both your eyelids and the area under your eyes . You can do this with our Pressed Powder or a neutral base eyeshadow like "Ivory" .

If the area around your eyes is very oily and you also have creams or liquid make-up on your face, this can prevent the mascara from staying on properly. Also make sure that your eyelashes are clean and dry before you apply mascara. If the eyelashes are wet with care creams or make-up, the durability can be affected. This can lead to the color pigments in the mascara coming off and smudging more quickly.

Apply with your mascara brush

Once your eye area is well prepared, hold the mascara brush horizontally on your upper lashes and move it in zigzag movements as close as possible from the base of your lash line to the tips. Move the mascara brush back and forth at the base for a few seconds before pulling it through the lengths and tips. The closer you get to the base, the longer, curlier and more expressive they appear – especially with light-coloured lashes. If you only catch the length and the tips, the lashes can actually appear shorter. Feel free to look downwards with your eyes when you apply mascara to your upper lashes and also from one direction to the other to catch all the hairs and coat them as completely with colour as possible.

If you have very light eyelashes, we recommend that you start by applying mascara from above to cover the entire hair with color pigment, before applying mascara from below in the classic way to maintain the curl.

If you don't feel like you can get close enough to the lash line with the zigzag movements, you can also place the mascara brush vertically and move it from one side to the other or from bottom to top.

Application with our eyelash fan brush

Use only a small amount for the lower lashes to emphasize them slightly. This automatically puts more focus on the upper lashes and makes your eyes more awake and radiant. If you have very fine and short lashes, you can also use our #21 eyelash fan brush to help you. Put some color from the mascara brush onto the brush in a controlled manner and apply the mascara with a light hand from left to right.

application of 1-3 layers

Apply a maximum of three layers of mascara and allow each layer to dry thoroughly by looking down for a few seconds after application. You can also use the length of a finger to create a stronger curve and apply light pressure at the roots while the mascara dries. If you want to separate individual hairs after applying mascara or something similar, you can gently comb them through with our #1 eyebrow brush .

Look: black vs. brown mascara

Whether you choose a black or brown mascara depends on your individual style and possibly also on the occasion. If you want a really expressive look and intense gaze , then black mascara is of course still the classic choice. It puts the focus on the eye area and gives the eyes depth and definition.

If you want a very soft no-makeup look for everyday life that only gently and subtly emphasizes your look, or if you generally have a very light skin and hair type for whom black mascara quickly looks too unnatural and harsh for everyday use, then you can definitely use a brown mascara . Since the color contrast between the brown mascara on your eyelashes, the skin and the eyes is usually less, the eye area can appear softer and the face can appear more delicate and fresh overall.

You can't go wrong when it comes to eye color. Both versions harmonize with all eye colors.

The combination of both colors is also great. Use a black mascara to emphasize the upper lashes and open up the eyes, and use a soft brown tone for the lower lashes to maintain the lightness there.

Look: Volume vs length – or both?

Not an either/or, but a clear both.

Ingredients: Why nourishing ingredients are so important

Our eyelashes protect our eyes from dirt, dust and other fine foreign bodies. In order to keep our protective eyelashes healthy, additional eyelash care is therefore particularly important. Applying and removing mascara every day can put a strain on particularly fine eyelash hairs. In order to protect the eyelashes permanently from drying out or even breaking off, the hybrid function of our mascara is particularly important to us. Each individual eyelash hair is not only coated with high-performance color pigments, but is also nourished, strengthened and protected by the many nourishing active ingredients. The castor oil we contain can also stimulate your eyelash growth.

Expert Know-how: Why you should remove your mascara in the evening

Most of us would prefer to avoid removing our eyelashes in the evening, but it is essential for keeping our eyes and eyelashes healthy . Removing eye makeup really thoroughly every evening should therefore be part of every evening routine . The color pigments can - if they remain on the eye for too long - clog the hair follicles, which can lead to individual eyelashes falling out prematurely. Mascara-applied eyelashes can also break off easily while you sleep, which can then lead to unsightly gaps in the lash line. Likewise, too much mascara residue can, in the worst case, lead to more sensitive eyes or even promote eye infections.

Sensitive and delicate eyelashes can be further damaged by removing makeup too roughly. Therefore, use a gentle remover such as our Cleanser or our Beauty Elixir to effortlessly remove the pigments from your eyelashes. If you use a cotton pad to remove mascara instead, carefully press the cotton pad soaked in eye makeup remover onto your eyelashes for a few seconds on your closed eye to properly remove the mascara and then gently pull the pads downwards in the direction of growth . Vigorous rubbing is then no longer necessary.
