Pigment spots – also called hyperpigmentation – are darker areas of skin caused by an overproduction of the skin pigment melanin.
The most common causes include:
Pigment spots are especially visible on the face. The good news: with the right combination of care, sun protection, and Make-up, these discolorations can be perfectly visually balanced.
The foundation for flawless Make-up on pigmentation spots is good care and preparation of the skin.
A daily sunscreen with SPF 30 is essential, as UV rays penetrate even through clouds. Sunscreen should be fully absorbed before applying foundation to ensure optimal coverage.
Additionally, skincare can support the effect of the Make-up:
This creates an ideal base to cover pigmentation spots on the face.
Miriam’s expert tip: Let the sunscreen absorb well before you start with your foundation.
The second step is choosing the right foundation color and coverage. The shade should be as close as possible to your own skin tone to achieve a natural result. For pigmentation spots, a light to medium coverage is recommended.
To specifically conceal dark areas, the foundation can be mixed with a Cream Concealer, allowing the coverage to be adjusted individually. For even more targeted coverage, cover products like our Cover Concealer are suitable, which neutralize skin irregularities.
Miriam's expert tip: Apply foundation and concealer with a dabbing motion and blend gently. This way, pigmentation spots appear significantly softened without the Make-up looking mask-like.
Colorful accents draw attention away from pigmentation spots and bring freshness to the face.
Lipsticks in bold colors like red, pink, or berry tones are especially flattering. For this, we recommend our lipstick in the color Signature Red. Outline the lips with a lip liner and then apply the lipstick evenly over the entire lip.
This creates a lively look that visually pushes pigmentation spots into the background.
Miriam's expert tip: Beforehand, apply a little concealer to your lip contour with the #22 Multi Blender Brush and then set it with some powder. This ensures the lip contour looks nicer, the lipstick lasts longer, and smudges less.
For pigmentation spots, a combination of targeted care, sun protection, and careful Make-up is crucial. A structured routine with a mild cleanser, brightening or balancing active ingredients such as Vitamin C, niacinamide, retinol, or azelaic acid, along with daily sun protection, helps prevent pigmentation spots and makes the skin more resilient.
For Make-up on pigmentation spots, it is essential to work with the right foundation coverage and to specifically neutralize darker areas of the skin with concealer. Dabbing motions when applying ensure that the Make-up looks more natural and blends better with the skin. Additional color accents on the lips or eyes can deliberately draw attention to other facial areas and emphasize the natural radiance. This way, pigmentation spots visually recede, and the complexion appears fresher and more balanced.
