Behind the scenes
Together with Rim, we regularly visited our Berlin laboratory over the past two years to develop the perfect shades for our foundations, concealer, and cream blushes.
About Rim
Make-up artist Rim sees her work not only as a creative service, but also as a way to build self-confidence. Her goal is to empower BIPoC women in particular through make-up and hairstyling. She makes visible what is often overlooked, allowing not only outer beauty but also inner beauty to shine. In recent years, Rim has increasingly specialized in working with BIPoC clients and Afro hair, as reflected in her collaborations with high-profile clients. In the past, she often had to mix foundation shades on set because the beauty market was not diverse enough. Until now — because she can now work with her own self-developed shades.
Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin
Rim Zemuye and JACKS beauty line founder Miriam Jacks have shared a long-standing professional friendship for years. They have also always shared the belief that Make-up must never exclude anyone.
That’s why it was clear to Miriam from the very beginning: this shade expansion could only happen through true co-creation. Just as there isn’t only one single light shade, dark skin is also multifaceted—with different shades and undertones. We finally want to do justice to that.

For over ten years, Rim Zemuye has been one of Germany’s leading hair and Make-up artists. Her focus is on Dark Skin Make-up as well as afro and curly textures. She sees her work not only as an aesthetic practice, but also as a contribution to greater visibility, self-confidence, and representation.
As a Black artist, Rim brings a perspective that has been missing from the beauty industry for far too long. She works with renowned personalities, advises beauty brands on product development, and shares her knowledge with other artists through the Rim Zemuye Academy, which she founded.
Rim’s work combines technical expertise with cultural awareness, setting new standards for diversity and visibility in the industry.
We want to develop Make-up that as many people as possible can see themselves in. Diversity isn’t a marketing trend for us, but part of our brand values. That’s why this shade expansion isn’t an outward-facing statement, but a natural step in our development.
Dark skin can have yellowish, reddish, or bluish undertones. Our new shades cover yellowish and reddish undertones. The bluish undertone is currently not included because a corresponding shade did not pass the stability tests.

Formulations for darker skin tones require special care. Pigments behave differently, textures respond more sensitively, and undertones must be balanced precisely. Compromising on quality or performance was never an option for us. That’s why we started over several times until the shades and textures truly delivered.
