In summer, our skin is under constant stress: UV radiation, heat, sweat, chlorine, and saltwater can dry it out, irritate it, and cause premature aging. There is no such thing as a "healthy tan"; every tan is already a protective reaction of the skin to UV damage. That’s why adapted skincare in summer is all the more important—it protects, hydrates, and soothes. But what kind of care does your skin really need in high temperatures? In this article, you’ll find practical tips, clear step-by-step recommendations, and the essential basics for healthy, radiant skin despite the sun, beach, and heat.

Summer presents our skin with very special challenges. Sun, heat, high humidity, and environmental influences stress it more than in the cooler months. While the skin needs protection from cold and dry heating air in winter, it requires a different kind of care in summer.
Below, you will learn which factors are particularly stressful in summer and why an adapted routine is so important to keep the skin healthy, radiant, and protected.
UV rays are the main factor for premature skin aging, pigmentation spots, and sunburn.
UV-A rays penetrate deep into the skin and are mainly responsible for skin aging, wrinkle formation, and pigmentation spots. They are active all year round and even through window glass.
UV-B rays act more superficially and mainly affect the outermost layer of the skin, causing sunburn.
Daily sun protection is therefore essential, even on cloudy days or in the shade.
High temperatures increase sebum production, which can lead to clogged pores and blemishes. At the same time, humidity increases sweating, causing the skin to dry out or become irritated quickly. Light textures like gels, fluids, or serums are ideal because they absorb quickly, provide moisture, and keep the skin fresh without feeling heavy.
Dust, exhaust fumes, and air conditioning additionally burden the skin. Regular, gentle cleansing removes dirt, sebum, and Make-up residues.

An effective summer skincare routine depends not only on the right products but also on the order in which they are applied. In summer, the rule is: light, hydrating formulations first, rich products last. This way, active ingredients can penetrate the skin optimally without being blocked by layers of cream.
If you're unsure about the ideal order of your skincare products or want to generally optimize your skincare routine, you can find more helpful basics and expert tips in our article on the Skincare Routine.
Start the day with a gentle cleanser. It removes sweat, sebum, and environmental pollution without drying out the skin.
After cleansing, a moisturizing toner is recommended. It balances the skin's pH level, prepares it optimally for the following skincare products, and already gives the skin an initial moisture boost.
For more hydration, a light serum can be applied, which intensely hydrates and balances the skin.
During the day, a cream with SPF 30 is necessary to protect the skin from UV rays, pigmentation spots, and premature skin aging. In the evening, you should choose a night cream that supports skin regeneration.
Mix 1-3 drops of the Self Tan Drops into your moisturizer for a natural tan and apply it evenly to your face. Check out our blog post Applying Self Tanner to the Face for a detailed guide.

The right skincare in summer protects your skin from UV radiation, heat, and environmental influences while helping to maintain moisture and balance. With a light, hydrating care routine and consistent sun protection, the skin stays fresh, cared for, and resilient even at high temperatures.
A simple routine of gentle cleansing, moisturizing products, and daily sun protection ensures that the skin is optimally protected and cared for. Light textures like gels or serums support the skin in heat, while sufficient hydration and gentle cleansing strengthen the natural skin barrier.
The most important tips at a glance:
Heat, UV radiation, and high humidity put more stress on the skin. Light textures and sun protection protect the skin and prevent impurities.
SPF 30–50 reliably protects against pigmentation spots, skin aging, and UV damage, even on cloudy days or during outdoor activities.
Every 2–3 hours, especially after swimming, sweating, or drying off. About two finger lengths are needed for the face, neck, and décolleté.
