JACKS Atelier: Back to the Origin

Miriam in conversation about the Artist Collection, growth, and community

Not every chapter in life is solely about growth. The "higher and faster," no matter the direction. Some are much more about remembering why you even started in the first place. That’s exactly what our Artist Collection is for us: a very conscious decision to return to the origin, which in recent years has somehow increasingly faded into the background. We were especially excited about this launch, but such a step also raises questions. That’s exactly what we talked about with Miri.

Dear Miri, why this step? Why is this collection so important to you?

For me, this collection is a true return to the very beginnings of JACKS beauty line. Because without the honestly somewhat crazy idea of hand-painting Make-up brushes, this company wouldn’t even exist – and certainly not as it is today. An incredible amount has happened in the last 14 years. I never would have expected such growth back then – not only as a company but also personally for Lisa and me as founders and managing directors. This is not something that ever becomes taken for granted, but it’s also not always easy. Because with so much growth, change naturally comes along, and our brushes have somewhat faded into the background among all the new products we have launched (all of which I love!).

In the last two years alone, we have hand-painted over one hundred thousand brush handles here in Berlin. Each one is truly handmade in the family-run brush manufactory we have been working with for years. And at the same time, many of the people who use our brushes every day are not even aware of how special each one really is. Not just produced, but truly made. After all, every brush passes through a total of 17 hands before it reaches you!

This is quite special and not all customers really know about it, right?

Exactly, and that's why we want to focus much more consciously on it again: with the Artist Collection. On the craftsmanship behind every brush, the uniqueness, the story – and the value contained in each one. But that also means fewer pieces because the designs are simply much more elaborate and take more time. That's why this collection is perhaps our most limited one yet.

But doesn't that make the collection too "exclusive"?

Sure, these brushes have a different value today than they did in the past. Not because we are artificially limiting them, but because time, craftsmanship, and quality simply come at a price. Fewer quantities do not mean less effort. On the contrary!

But it is very important for me to say: The Artist Collection is not a collection that everyone absolutely must have. Rather, it is for those who see the craft behind it – and want to consciously appreciate it every morning when applying makeup.

For those who say: I want to own less, but more consciously. I want a tool that lasts. That is exactly why we have developed our repair service as part of the collection, which not only provides a one-year warranty on our brushes as before, but five years. In addition, there are the two years of statutory warranty that come with the purchase anyway. As far as I know, you won’t find that anywhere else.

And we don't just replace, we properly repair again.

Exactly! As long as it can be seen that the brushes have been well cared for overall, we repair them instead of just replacing the brush with a possibly cheaper one. That means, in case of need, you really get the original handle of your brush back, refurbished. After all, you received your original certificate for exactly that, and I am really proud that we can offer this. Because our brushes truly deserve this level of appreciation. After all, we have so many customers who have been using their JACKS brushes for 14 (!) years. Therefore, this understanding of durability is what we wanted to further develop with the Artist Collection.

Maybe one last thing: What do you wish for when someone picks up a brush from the Artist Collection?

What was good for the skin at 20 can quickly overwhelm it at 40. Harsh cleansers, aggressive peels, or drying anti-pimple products now quickly lead to an imbalance.

Rich, classic anti-aging creams can also become a problem: many contain oils or waxes that clog pores faster in skin prone to blemishes. At the same time, soothing, barrier-strengthening ingredients that mature skin urgently needs are often missing. This is exactly why we focus on Well-Aging – not just Anti-Aging.

Thank you, dear Miri, for the wonderful interview!
